This is the front cover and the start of the design. This would be set up or the correct measurements so its right for a front cover.
After making all the correct setting for the page I started putting in different text boxes and added in texts that would advertise the articles and things inside of the magazine.
I got star shapes and put them on the side to fill out dead space. I also used different fonts and sizes for the texts so different things would show up.
I then added the photo on to the background this changed a lot for the magazine as the colour scheme change drastically and i put in red and white text so it would be easier to see. I also put on a drop shadow on the stars to make them stand out more. The way I did this was double click the star layer and then tick the stroke effect and adjust on how I can see it. Having red in the fonts helps to attract the audience because it stands out from the colour scheme only being black and white the colour red also connotates danger and violence and the audience can relate the genre to this colours due to them know about the genre.

I also edited the photo to keep with the distorted theme this means that I went on to the style of the pictures layer and got rid of one of the colour channels (The Red one) this then I got the original photo and put it under it so then I could move that top layer to distort the colour. I also made the picture.
The way I got the glitch effect on the picture is:- Main picture onto the document.
-Then duplicate the layer. Turn that layer into black and white.
-Duplicate the black and white layer.
-Then edit the channel of the picture and get rid of the red colour. Then I clicked on to the move tool to move the 3rd layer to the left a bit.
- Once done this I grouped all those layers and duplicated the group.
- After that, I went on to the duplicated group and
selected the 3rd layer of it.
- Once it was selected I clicked on to the rectangular marquee tool. I then clicked and dragged along that layer to have a thin and long rectangle. I Then moved that selected part sideways and repeated this a lot of times until I thought it was enough.

This is the setting up of the double page spread. I had to do this to make sure it is the correct sizes of what my double page spread should be.

Firstly I had to figure out where the middle of the page would be so I put in a red line in the middle of the page to mark where it would fold so I do not put any of the articles in that bit.

After putting the red line in I started typing up the article on to the word and copy and pasted it into the Photoshop document. When doing this I knew that my main double page picture would have the group in the middle of the page so I put black boxes there so I know I should work around it.
Once I got the photo I did the same thing to this photo then I did to the front cover and distorted it a bit. then I realised that the font was difficult to see so I changed the colour of it and then put blue boxes in the background I also put the opacity of the boxes down so they would show the background and so the picture wasn't ruined.

This is the completed front cover.
This is the completed double page spread.

Strengths

Weakness
|
|
- One of the strengths of the magazine would be the colours and how they stick out and show the connotations of the genre of rap within them making the target audience see this and want to purchase it.
- Another strength is that it has a heavily edited main picture which most magazines don’t have this would appeal to the target audience as they would see something different and want to know more about the main artists featured in the magazine.
- The fonts used in the front cover is a strength as its bold and would attract the audience to see it. It also has a distorted style to it making it stand out in the cover this would also relate to the genre rap in North London and how they have a distorted beat to them and this would make the target audience like the magazine.
- The double page spread has a great image of the artists in the middle this would appeal to the audience as it shows a very cool look on the artists making the audience want to know more about them and want to continue to read the article.
|
- A weakness of the front cover is that it's not the simple and has a lot going on in it this could make the audience feel confused when they look at it and not want to pick it up.
- Another weakness to the front cover of the magazine is that some of the text you can’t read very well so it would make the target audience thinks it’s not as professional as it should be and not want to purchase the magazine.
- In the double page spread it also has the same problem of the font not being as readable as it should be making the target audience be put off from how difficult it is to read it.
- The colours with the font are also stopping from the audience from seeing the text well enough for an easier read so it can’t see that well.

Suitability
The strengths of the double page spread are that its very eye opening and that people will be drawn into it. It would also hit the target audience for 17 - 23 year old as they would like the glitch effect to it. The improvements would be that from the effects that I put on to it it makes the text difficult to see so changing the contrast or hue of the image could improve how they can see the fonts/ texts of the front cover/ double page spread. Another strength I think that is in the magazine is that its very nice layout about and it's easy for people to understand what it is.
