Feedback:
The client provided me with four different pieces of feedback and from this I will look at the differences between the useful points, which will help me to develop my product and the points that do not add to the creation of the product.
The client first asked me about my colour scheme. He questioned if I had any other colours other than the ones stated during my pitch for the magazine. I explained that I planned to only include three colours to create a stronger brand for ‘Shout Out’ -red white and black. One of the useful comments that were given was to use more than the other 3 colours. This is a useful comment because using only 3 colours would make those colours look bit overused and boring so using other colours for the magazine to complement different artists on the cover would be a lot better for it. With this in mind to develop my product further, the other colours I may use are yellow, green or purple. I feel that they complement each other and still contribute to the brand of my magazine. Now, on the other hand, using more colours could confuse the audience and make the magazine look too bright and so full they don't know what do look at. This could also break a style that the magazine could have and only use 3 colours so it has a main brand colour so people are able to identify the brand only by looking at the colours.
Another useful comment was for if what other fonts that I would be using within the magazine. The fonts that I would be using would be the Glitch doctor and that was illustrated within my presentation as the masthead title, but if I used all the same font in the articles and subheads it would make less of an impacted and water it down. So from the feedback, I made improvements and added 2 new different fonts for the articles that I think I should use. I found these other fonts on the website dafonts.
From the feedback, I researched into different fronts the reason for wanting to use the blacklist font is because that it goes well with what I want in the magazine and how it would be portrayed it also compliments the masthead. As for the other font, I like this want for main titles this font would also compliment the masthead as well as the article fonts. I will be acting on this feedback as I think using one font throughout the whole magazine will make it less important so I should use another font so I’ll be getting a font that is like the masthead but unique to have the reader enjoy the fonts in the articles.
One more useful comment was how the use of an age restriction would not be good for my magazine and censoring it would be pointless as the magazine is directed at 17+ so I should have no concern about the kids that purchase them as I have put in a warning saying its 17+ this was a very useful point that he said as now I know that I don’t have any problems with the age for the magazine. This is important as I know that the main audiences within the hip hop scene are over the ages of 17 so it is perfect for the magazine. Although him saying that we don't need to put in anything to say that its 17+ there could be things that are discriminatory language within it so this could put people off the magazine or the genre of the magazine. So putting in a disclaimer to say that people should not take personal offence to any of the lyrics or things that are being said by the rappers or the articles that are within the magazine.
A comment that was less useful for me was about my use of Photoshop and how I will be using it. It will be used for all the tasks that are needed for creating the magazine. He recommended that I don’t use Photoshop for the typography and use a programme called InDesign an Adobe program that would be a lot better for the text for the articles, but I will not be able to use this program as it is extra costs that don’t need to spend when we will be able to use Photoshop even if it is fiddly or annoying.
I also have met the brief as it wants a North London music magazine that is about a vibrant music scene developing locally. I know I have met these as I will have a feature that will be from North London talking about Rap that is vibrant music developing locally meaning around North London.
Overall, the feedback I recieved from the client has allowed me to develop my ideas and improve my final product.
