Magazine proposal:
S̶H̶O̶UT O̶U̶T̶
Objective
Shout out has the objective to serves as both a guide to a new and upcoming artist in the Hip- Hop rap scene also it will serve as a place to get all the information for wanting to know more about your favourite Hip – Hop rapper to data. Another objective for the magazine is to become the biggest running music magazine in North London and hopefully expanding into different parts of London. The magazine will feature rising stars rappers from North London. This is important because it explains in the brief that I should be doing a North London music magazine.
Content
‘Shout Out’ will be a magazine that will feature guides to the new and upcoming artist and the famous artist that so many admire and want to know more about. This magazine will cost £4.50 and will have an A4 size to it. It will be realised at the 1st of every month. As Hip- Hop rap has such a negative stigma surrounding it and is seen as a bad thing for kids we want to stop that and try and show the good that it has done to the people that enjoy it so much.
Sound cloud is an online streaming service to put on music online this would help artists that don't have any label company going after them. This means anyone can post up any music they would like on to there. This means the market of new rappers can get saturated with unskilled people posting up random music they stole and song over. This would be a big topic I would like to discuss with rising stars whenever possible.
Throughout every issue, there will be a section talking to and about new and upcoming artist this will have their background stories why they wanted to come into this genre and what they want to do as well as interviews about their music. We will be able to talk about rising topics as well where new artists can release their new music up “sound cloud” and how we can all make Hip – Hop rap have less of a bad image. It will also showcase important hip hop artist within North London from what they are doing and how they become so popular. This is important as it says in the brief that the magazine is for north London so using North London rappers would make sure it has the North London feel to it.
Another part of the magazine will feature interviews of famous Hip – hop rappers, for example, Lil pump and lots of others this will also have their background story’s as well as well as talking to them about their music and how they came to be. We also tell the readers about upcoming events or festivals they could be going to, giving people a chance to see them. The reason for putting in events and festivals because lots of the audience would want to see these artists as well the magazine will be able to get a combined promotion with the festival that's happening so they can promote the festivals that are coming up to the festival will pay them to feature it in the magazine.
The name of the magazine ‘Shout out’ is to give the meaning that we want the new and upcoming artist that feature in this magazine to “shout out” to all audience.
Article idea - This will feature an interview/ Q and A sort of style. As I will have set questions asking the artist about things within the hip hop genre and what he thinks about it. For example, one question could be about what they think the hip hop genre will grow into. Then I would have the audience from different social media to tell us questions to ask and we will ask them giving the audience to have a better connection with the artist.

Genre
The genre for this magazine will be Hip Hop/ Rap this genre has a big scene within north London and knowing this it will secure the target audience. The main reason why I have used this genre is that it is very global and has a very large following already so using this for the magazine will mean that we get a lot more customer coming and wanting to purchase the magazine. The genre is also very important in London from all the teens using the fashion and them copying it so they can follow their favourite artists in this genre. One big important artists that have come from North London would be Skepta we want to feature these artists within the magazine to show the true talent North London has.
Mood board:
Mood board:
In the mood board, it shows new artists that are coming up in the hip hop genre as well as ones that are well known to them as it shows the new and very famous Tyler The Creators album 'Flower Boy' showing the popular albums that came out recently. The mood board also shows new artists like Ski mask the slump god this is for the new splash of young adults going into the hip hop genre. As well as the 'parental advisory explicit content' tag that is on most hip hop music albums from them being so rude. These rappers are not the most famous ones and that's what we are going to try and do within the magazine and feature not so popular artists that are on the rise so they can have the spotlight. It will also feature some famous rappers within the magazine from the top the famous golden age of rap to encourage the older audience of rap.
Target audience
The target audience is 17 – 23 years old men. This would mean that the target audience that I am aiming at is the young that both understand the hip- hop music and want to learn more about it. The demographics of the magazine would be young adults with a low to medium range of income (C2DE). This would be because most people that would listen to this sort of music would be teens and young adults so it would hit the target audience perfectly. These teens are also very important from them making this music very vibrant in London. In terms of ethnicity, my magazine will be inclusive of everyone,
Resources:
The resources used for this magazine would be through the paper to print out the magazine to the Photoshop to be able to edit the magazine on. Also, it would need other equipment like all normal stationery as well as computers. Another recourse is would be time this would be how much time we would have on the project. Software and hardware would be a resource as well, for example, Microsoft word to write out the article and Photoshop to edit the photos and fit it all together.
Personnel:
In the workplace for the magazine, it will have a lot of people from having an editor who directly supervisors the other editors and writers.
The editor would develop the issue and work with other editors to finalise specific stories and the look.
Another person that would be working would be the photographer this person would be taking photos of objects or people that would be used for the magazine front cover and double page spread.
There would also be a writer, the writer’s job would to research into a writer into lots and different stories and write about them in articles for the magazine.photographer as well as needing a photographer for taking pictures for the front cover and article within the magazine.
For the purposes of the first edition, I will be carrying out all of these tasks.

I think for the font that it shows some Glitch effect on it to make it seem a lot more broken up as the title of the magazine is ‘shout out’ showing that it's being distorted by the sound. Using these fonts will help to give an out of the focused look and this is important as it could relate to the magazine and how it is looking on the North London rap scene and how North London hasn't been looked at in this light before.
Swot
Strengths –
The strength of this magazine is that it promotes Hip hop in a way that it should be seen as and helps people that don’t know it to well to see how it’s an inspiring and helpful thing for people to get in to. It also promotes artists that are rising and it will help them to gain more support for the future.
Weakness –
The magazine does have a weakness and that would be that a lot of people dislike Hip hop rap for its super mature content within it this could scare away the audience from reading it and this could lead to people thinking that the magazine promotes bad content.
Opportunities –
The opportunities for the magazine would be that it could be able to promote big online audio distribution for example Sound cloud or Spotify. It also could help the older generation to know about the Hip hop scene this could help the growth of this genre also changing it for the better, having fewer people think it’s bad when it’s actually full of thousands of talented artist.
Threats -
The threats for the magazine would be the Content within the magazine by having strong laugh and sexual references as people could take offence from these things. Other threats would be competitors.

Competition
The completion for hip hop rap magazine in the local area isn’t that competitive meaning that there is no danger of being taken over in the local area. Nationally there are lots of different magazines for them, for example, XXL, Complex and Hip hop weekly all of these focus on similar things that shout go by but they only normally speak to the most famous ones, not the ones coming up to stardom.
Legal + ethical –
- It could have problems with libel information that would mean that I don't have true information within the magazine this can be stopped by double checking the information that is put on to the magazine. this can be stopped by double checking the information that is put on to the magazine. Another problem that could come up with a legal issue would be the copyright of an image meaning that I could get sued for using photos that I didn't get my self. The way around this issue would be to generate my own pictures and make sure that I don't take anyone else photos. If I do take anything from online websites, then I will ensure that they are taken from royalty free websites.
- As the magazine is a rap magazine there will be lots of different ethical problem with it that would be that it could contain strong laugh, sexual references and graphics content within it. People could take offence from this. The way around this would be to put a disclaimer about what will feature in the magazine.
Distribution and marketing –
The marketing and distribution will be done through social media the reason for this is because of the target audience of the magazine are so young it will be beneficial to use this method to advertise through those apps as young people use lots of social media. e.g. Instagram, snapchat and Facebook. The way I would use the social media would be creating an Instagram, facebook and youtube account with the facebook page posting regularly with promotional posters and pictures of stories/ articles that are going to be coming within the next issues of the magazine. Instagram would also do the same with posting telling the audience what storeys are coming and what is happening within the rap world. Youtube would have videos of the staff members briefly talking about what's happening in the rap world and for the audience to learn more they should check out the article that is written in the magazine.
The distribution will be done by putting the magazine in newsagents, supermarkets and websites. Those places will sell them to the public. This will be done because its an easy and quick way for people to pick up a magazine. as well as most magazines are distributed at these places so it's common to find them there. As well the target audience will go to supermarkets as they would be young adults that do have some income coming in. In the modern age, the magazine is now converting over to the online distribution as technology is now able to have magazines on phones and tablets when people want. One way of doing the online distribution would be through apps as, in the brief it says to make an online and print-based magazine so making sure we cover all for of online we are also making an app as well because the audience that like this new vibrant music are young adults and most of them have smartphones so using apps would be important as they would find this a lot more convenient for them rather than purchasing as a newsagent or supermarket.

Front cover -
The masthead has been placed there because it would stand out to the audience to make sure that people see the magazine more and it pops out to them. The main image will be placed within the middle with different text around it to make the main stand out and to make people read the sidelines to they notice what is going to be featured within the magazine.
Double page spread -
In the double page spread, I have the main image of the artist placed within the middle to make sure it stands out to the readers. The text will be around just around the artist as it looks professional and shows how important we want the artists to be seen as.
Existing exampales of magazines in competition -

The Source - The source was at its best in the early '90s until. In to days way of magazine its not the greatest and hasn't been good since the 90s they had good and intelligent articles that went in depth about the rappers and their music. The way shout out will be better then the source is that it makes the audience has a big say in what the articles will have in them and they can talk to writers/ journalists on social media or the shout out website. This would make sure that the audience is very active within the magazine so the stay with it and want to keep on purchasing it so we will not go out of date.

XXL -This magazine has been good for years but recently has been taken over by the internet the good things about this magazine is that it keeps up to date with the new artists that are coming out. From what I know XXL is the best out of all of them. The way Shout out will beat XXL will be it's going to print-based and online when XXL is only online and has no printed based magazines. This shows that we might in the future need to put the magazine on both print and online as one of the most famous magazines are not moving online and that print is slowly dying.
